Public Access Computers

The court provides public access computers at the Civil/Family/Probate/Small Claims clerk’s counter on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse, and in the lobby area of the Branch Location, which allow inquiry access to our civil and criminal databases. A public access computer is also available for your convenience at the Self Help Center on the first floor of the Historic Courthouse.  Instructions are provided at each workstation for your assistance.

Court Provides Complimentary Public Wireless Internet Access

The court provides a free internet access point or “hot spot” for the benefit of the public, jurors, court employees, and justice partners (during normal business hours), who have portable computers capable of receiving wireless signals. This access point will allow users to access the internet from their laptop computers when sitting within range of the access point at all of the court facilities.

Now, the public, prospective jurors, attorneys, and law enforcement agencies can check their e-mail, download files for court, or just view the court’s web site for immediate access to calendaring or other court news or information while visiting at each of the court facilities.

Request for Password to Acquire Access

In order to access the court’s free internet access point, you must first request a password. To do so, please visit the Executive Assistant on the third floor of the Historic Courthouse located at 41 W. Yaney Avenue, Sonora, CA.  To be issued a password, you will be required to provide your name, e-mail address, and telephone number. The password will be valid for a period of up to one week.

The court’s IT Department does not provide technical support for this Wi-Fi system.

Acceptable Use Policy

As a state agency, the court has a management responsibility to establish an appropriate policy to administer use of the Internet and online services supported by this agency. It is within this context that the court offers access to the Internet via the wireless network.

All users are expected to use the wireless access in a legal and responsible manner.

While using this wireless access, users should not violate federal, State of California, or local laws, including those relating to:

Downloading copyrighted material:

U.S. copyright law prohibits the unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted materials, except as permitted by the principles of "fair use." No user may copy or distribute electronic materials without the explicit permission of the copyright holder.

The transmission or receiving of any pornography or harmful material:

Accessing or displaying obscene language or sexually explicit graphics or materials is prohibited.

Fraud:

Accessing or displaying obscene language or sexually explicit graphics or materials is prohibited.

By using this wireless access network, the user acknowledges that he/she is subject to, and agrees to abide by, all laws, and all rules and regulations of the State of California and the federal government, that are applicable to internet use.

COURT STAFF WILL NOT PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE; STAFF WILL NOT ASSIST IN MAKING CHANGES TO THE USER'S NETWORK SETTINGS, OR PERFORM ANY TROUBLESHOOTING ON THE USER'S OWN COMPUTER.
